When wandering through the historic streets of Kyoto, especially after visiting the iconic Kiyomizudera, Rokkatei stands out as a delightful café that captures the essence of Japanese culinary comfort. Located at 1 Chome-294 Kiyomizu, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, this charming retreat offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for those looking to relax and recharge.

Rokkatei specializes in traditional Japanese dishes, with their kitsune udon and tamago udon winning accolades from both locals and tourists alike. Each bowl of udon is a symphony of flavors, with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked noodles that create a soothing meal, ideal after a day of exploration. Imagine sinking your teeth into a soft piece of mitarashi dango, each bite drenched in a sweet, savory soy sauce glaze that perfectly complements the sticky rice dumplings. It’s these simple yet delightful offerings that keep patrons coming back for more.

Customers consistently praise Rokkatei not just for its tasty dishes, but also for its friendly staff and serene environment. Gabriel Kaplan highlighted the café's affordability, describing it as “lovely, cheap, and tasty” — a breath of fresh air amidst the often over-priced eateries that dot the tourist hotspots. Sara C appreciated Rokkatei as "a nice spot to sit and relax,” a sentiment echoed by Bradley Jang, who appreciated the “comfortable seating area” that allows you to savor your food while escaping the hustle of the crowd.

The café's ambiance, combined with the delightful flavors of its menu, makes Rokkatei not just a place to eat but a haven for those seeking a bit of peace amid Kyoto's vibrant energy. So, next time you find yourself near Kiyomizudera, take a moment to indulge in the simple pleasures that Rokkatei has to offer. It might just become your go-to spot on your travels.

Lovely, cheap, tasty, not crowded. Would highly recommend. A lot of restaurants around here seem overpriced (or at least expensive, maybe they are appropriately priced), but this spot was cheap, fast. Their udon was tasty.

The kitsune udon is good, the tamago udon is very nice too... And what's more? There is welcome drink of sencha and jelly, the one serving is polite. The best.

The mitarashi dango here is great! It’s also a nice spot to sit and relax after visiting Kiyomizudera.

Was craving a snack after visiting Kiyomizu-dera so I ordered some dango. The dango was tasty and there's a comfortable seating area for you to rest while you eat. This place is slightly out of the way so it's a nice respite from the usual crowds and hustle of the area. If I'm ever in Japan again I wouldn't mind coming back to try more dishes.

The best Mitarashidango around here. You can taste the handwork thats inside of that. Nicely grilled and served with a cup of tea. Recommend++

I really appreciate how welcoming the server was. The food was good, especially after some light snow. Our server also understood English, which is a big plus.
